Atlas began operations back in 1966 by the name of Atlas Shipping Agency, as the pioneering carrier and first OceanGoing Vessel (OGV) owner in the shipping industry of Bangladesh.

Foundation
As the founder, he looked over the activities of all Atlas Line ventures as a whole, while simultaneously provided leadership and guidance to the Board of Directors.
Mr. Sanaullah Chowdhury took extensive training abroad on shipping in Bremen, Hamburg, Antwerp, and Rotterdam, before eventually floating his own shipping business in 1966. Best known as the pioneer of international shipping and trading in Bangladesh, he was also the owner of the first Bangladesh national flag carrier Ocean-Going Vessel (OGV).
Mrs. Umme Salma Chowdhury wife of Sanaullah Chowdhury has joined during the formation of the company as a working partner. She was in charge of the financial part where has contributed vastly towards the growth of the company.
Mr. Sanaullah Chowdhury was engaged in many social and community services and his regular contribution to society as a donor to the orphanages as well as underprivileged educational institutes in Bangladesh.

OVER THE AGES
We continue to consistently and successfully expand the scope of our operations as a Liner Out Operator/Agent and “One Stop Logistic Service” Provider.
Atlas Global Logistic Limited (AGLL) was established, providing International OGV Chartering, Global General Shipping, Coastal Water Commodity Transportation and Liner Out Operations.
Atlas Shipping Lines Limited (ASLL) firmly re-established their robust foundations as a Logistics Carrier and a “One Stop Logistic Service” provider.
Atlas Shipping Lines Limited (ASLL) acquired the “MV AL SALAMAS,” a 10,000 DWT OGV.
Atlas International Agencies Limited (AIAL) was established as a sister concern, involving Commodity Trading, Indenting and participating in International Tenders for both governmental and non-governmental projects. Atlas Shipping Lines Limited (ASLL) also acquired the “MV SAFAR,” a 15,000 OWT OGV the same year.
“MV AL SALMA-2” a 10,000 OWT OGV, was acquired.
Atlas Shipping Lines Limited (ASLL) acquired the “MV AL SAMRUZ” a 12,500 DWT OGV.
Atlas Shipping Lines Limited (ASLL) acquired the “MV AL SAYESTHA:’ a 8,000 DWT OGV.
Atlas Shipping Lines Limited (ASLL) acquired the “MV AL SANA:’ a 8,000 DWT OGV.
Atlas Shipping Lines Limited (ASLL) acquired a 4,000 DWT OGV, named the “MV AL SHARMEEN;’
Atlas Shipping Lines Limited (ASLL) acquired the “MV AL SALMA,” a 10,000 Dead-Weight Tonnage (DWT) ship; becoming the first company owning and operating an OGV in Bangladesh.
Atlas Navigation Company Limited (ANCL) was inaugurated, for international Ocean-Going Vessel (OGV) chartering, local general shipping agent, inland water passenger transportation and liner out operator agent.
Atlas Shipping Lines Limited (ASLL) began operations in Chittagong, effectively acting as a CNF-based clearing and forwarding, chartering and handling agency for tramp vessels after the Bangladesh Liberation War of 1971.
The Chairman completed an extensive training program in shipping at Bremen, Hamburg, Antwerp and Rotterdam, sponsored by M/S HANSA LINE, Bremen.
Sanaullah Chowdhury, Chairman and Managing Director of Atlas Group, began his career as a trainee in the shipping field with M/S Show Wallace (Pakistan) Limited, Chittagong, Bangladesh.
